IP EXPO Manchester has announced that Robert Hannigan, former GCHQ Director and the man credited with drawing up the UK’s first Cyber Security Strategy, as this year’s opening keynote speaker.
Hannigan, who spent several years as Director of GCHQ, is credited with the development of the UK’s first Cyber Security Strategy and setting up the National Cyber Security Centre. During IP EXPO Manchester, happening 25-26 April 2018, he will be bringing his wealth of experience and insider knowledge of national cyber security to help businesses shape up.
Whilst at GCHQ, Hannigan had led a push to make the agency more transparent, a process that included a major speech in the US last year on encryption and tech companies. He also pressed to try to put GCHQ at the forefront of digital challenges, leading to the creation of the National Cyber Security Centre in October last year and the government pledging over £1.9bn investment in cyber security.
“We are incredibly excited to announce that the UK’s former spy chief Robert Hannigan will be opening IP EXPO Manchester. Until recently Hannigan was chief of the UK’s surveillance agency GCHQ, sister agency to MI5, and founder of the National Cyber Security Centre. Hannigan has often been extremely outspoken discussing how the fight against terrorism has been hampered by technology freely provided by the vendor community – I think it’s fair to say we’re expecting fireworks!” commented Bradley Maule-ffinch EMEA Portfolio Director at IP EXPO Event Series
Maule-ffinch continues: “Across the IP EXPO event series we want to provide attendees with access to world class experts, individuals who are shaping our view and understanding of technology as we know it. We’re excited to welcome Robert Hannigan to IP EXPO Manchester to share his incredible experience and knowledge with this year’s audience.”
Along with Hannigan, IP EXPO Manchester will play host of over 90 inspiring and educational speakers from across the technology spectrum. Attendees will also have access to over 100 exhibitors as part of the free to attend event at Manchester Central.
